Baby Cooper’s nursery is exactly what I love about room design for children – lots of bright color, texture, and unique items and heirlooms. Red and blue look so classic together, and the combination of the wicker and brass made for the sweetest touches in Cooper’s nursery – clearly his mama has a great sense of design! Check out all of the details of Cooper’s red, white, & blue themed nursery

modern nursery designWhat is the theme of your nursery?

Red, white, and blue.

What was the inspiration for your nursery design?

Because we plan to be in our home for a long time, I really wanted Cooper’s nursery to be able to grow with him over the years. This led me to looking at a lot of “big kid” rooms for inspiration when trying to come up with the vibe of the nursery. I have always loved all shades of blue, and I knew I wanted the room to have a lot of color, so when I found a boys bedroom that was mostly blues with red accents I knew it was the direction I wanted to go in.

eclectic nursery designDid you include any sentimental items in your nursery, or items from your childhood? If so, please share their story!

Yes! I love sentimental items. The framed onesie art that hangs above the bookshelf is actually my husbands onesie from when he was born –making it even more special, the doctors name printed on the onesie is his grandfathers from his OBGYN practice. His grandfather had given it to my husband when my husband was born. I surprised my husband by framing this onesie and making it a forever piece in the nursery.

Towards the end of my pregnancy with Cooper, we were focused on helping our older son, Barry, get excited about his new baby brothers impending arrival. One day we went to Color Me Mine and Barry picked out a truck piggy bank to paint for his brother. He was so excited to be able to gift this to Cooper when he was born.

What is the most used item in your nursery? What item would you recommend for first time parents?

Our most used item is definitely the Dream Glider from Pottery Barn. You spend so much time in the glider, especially in the early days with a newborn, it is important to have one that is comfortable.

nursery designDid you experience any challenges with your nursery design?

Picking the carpet was a huge challenge for us because it really set the tone for the whole space! I was really torn between the blue carpet we went with and a more navy plaid carpet. Ultimately, we felt like this carpet gave us more freedom with the rest of the design, and I couldn’t be happier with the decision.

Is there anything else you’d like to share about your nursery?

I actually think my favorite part of the nursery is the light fixture and light blue painted ceiling. I think it makes the ceiling look like the sky with the blue and twinkling star lights. So far, Cooper loves looking up at it!

red white blue nurseryAny final tips or advice?

You spend so much time in the nursery, make it a place that makes you happy to be in! Try and pick pieces that can be used long term. For example, using a full size dresser for the changing table and a full size bookshelf.

I hope Cooper’s nursery & tips are helpful as you prepare your baby’s nursery! Photographing your baby at home is so special – I’ll never forget bringing my son home and how our house suddenly felt more alive than ever. We’ve since moved, but it holds such a special place in my heart because it’s the first place I became a mother.
