Let me tell you all the reasons why I love this particular location for family sessions in Philadelphia.

• Architectural interest – look at all of those columns, stairs, and the iconic Philadelphia Museum of Art in the background! Many of my clients who choose Philadelphia as a location for their family session have a connection to the city in some way: either they’re here for residency or to finish school, or they’ve made the move here and want to include a little hint of Philadelphia in their portraits (something more subtle than posing with the Rocky statue 😜).
• As a Philadelphia family photographer – one that works primarily with young families – I’m always on the lookout for spots where my youngest clients can safely sit and explore. I love this spot because there are lots of stairs for little ones to sit, and a little pea gravel space for them to explore.
• Depending on where you are in Philadelphia, light can be a little tricky; I personally like to start my sessions earlier in the morning, when there are less people around, and buildings can block much of the light (of course, this is heavily influenced by where exactly in the city you are). With the large open back lawn behind the museum, there is plenty of access to light first thing in the morning – you’ll see the sun peeking through the trees and those gorgeous highlights on Emslie’s hair as she plays in the gravel.

Hair and makeup are also available for clients at my Philadelphia area family photography studio space so that you’re ready for your family session.
