One of my favorite things about photographing maternity sessions is knowing that in the next couple of months, I’ll be able to see the fruits of the (pun intended) labor.
Rachel’s maternity session was on one of the coldest days I’ve ever done a session outdoors (though you’d never know it from the portraits!) and you can tell just from the landscape, this session took place many months later. Audrey was born right at the start of Pennsylvania’s Covid shutdowns and by the time photographer were allowed to operate again, she certainly wasn’t a newborn anymore.
Flexibility and adaptability, right? We brought Audrey out to one of my favorite Mainline photography locations for a family session in lieu of a newborn session, and as you can see with that giant smile, she was pretty pleased with the choice! They traveled from Philly to my neck of the woods to take advantage of this gorgeous willow tree and soft sunlight falling on tall grasses. I also loved that we were able to photograph Audrey with so much personality; sure, there’s nothing like a sleepy newborn but I bet that smile will be something that you’ll see reflected in her family portraits five, ten, fifteen years down the line.
As a Mainline family photographer, one of the points I stress most to my clients is that family photography doesn’t have to be stuffy or forced or tense. We’re not going to be sitting criss-cross-apple-sauce in the middle of a mowed lawn; I’m going to have you smoochin’ your partner, tickling that baby upside down, and laying down in the grass, fingers wrapped around each other. My favorite portraits from this session are her parents hands resting on her tiny stomach, and the way that her little feet are learning to press down upon her mother’s legs. Precious!
Unsure of what to wear for your session? I’ve got you covered! The studio wardrobe is available to all clients, with over 90 dresses for mothers and outfits for children and babies, up to size 8. Hair and makeup are also available for clients at my Mainline family photography studio space so that you’re ready for your family session.
