Families often wonder about location for their newborn session; is in-home or studio a better fit for them?
Carsen’s newborn session took place in-home, which was perfect for this active family of five. While my studio is lovely for newborn sessions, in-home sessions can be easiest if there is a crew of older siblings joining. While I’m photographing solo newborn portraits, siblings can play and relax, and then easily join when it’s their time to shine. The familiarity of their own home can encourage shy little ones to be their best for the session, too.
If you’re worried about having to clean the entire house – with a newborn! – to prep for your in-home newborn session, fear not. Before your session, I’ll ask about the brightest rooms in your home. Generally, that’s the master bedroom and living room. Moving baby stuff, like rockers and swings, and clutter out of the way in those rooms alone is fine! There’s no need to go scrubbing the basement or bathrooms, as we won’t be photographing your session in those rooms.
For their in-home newborn session, Lina and the boys utilized my studio wardrobe. I can’t express how much I love that white off the shoulder dress on her; I love a baby’s head resting on a bare shoulder, skin to skin.

The studio wardrobe is available to all clients, with over 90 dresses for mamas – including the one above! – and outfits for children and babies. Hair and makeup are also available for clients at my Philadelphia area photography studio space so that you’re ready for your newborn session.
