Looking to capture those precious chubby cheeks, tiny hands, and priceless first days with your babe? A newborn photography studio is just what you need! Maybe you pictured an in-home session, which is also great, but I want to share some reasons why you should also consider a studio session.

8 Reasons to Consider a Newborn Photography Studio

There’s no need to clean the house.

I know what those early weeks are like: laundry piled up, dishes stacked, diapers scattered around, and a half-deflated mylar balloon that you don’t have the heart to throw away yet. With an in-studio session, you don’t need to do a single thing to tidy up your house for a photo session. Yes, you’ll need to pack a diaper bag with a few necessities in order to venture out, but I think this is less hassle than cleaning up the house.

A studio has ideal lighting.

Those beautiful, soft, light-filled photos that you probably have fallen in love with often come from a studio with lots of windows with sheer curtains. These are totally possible to achieve in-home as well, but a studio will be more consistent. Your photographer might be a bit more limited with posing options if you only have one window in your baby’s nursery.

Studios provide a neutral, blank canvas background.

Many of our homes are decorated to be lived in (as they should!) which doesn’t always translate to the best background for photography. Colors in your home can cast a certain color on your photos and distract from the main focus of your session: your family. A studio is often very light and neutral so that you don’t have those issues.

More props are readily available in a studio.

There are only so many props that a photographer can bring to your home for a session, and it’s usually just the basics. If you have your heart set on using certain props, your best bet is to do your session in the studio.

Newborn photography studios are usually really warm to keep sleeping babies comfortable.

You could turn on your heat at home to warm things up, but you’d need to do this a few hours before your shoot. Save yourself the energy bill when you choose a studio session!

Studio sessions will usually take less time.

While the actual shoot would be about the same, your photographer needs time to set up and break down if they come to your home. However, with a studio session, everything can be set up before you arrive instead of adding on to session time.

You don’t need to have a finished nursery.

Sometimes you’ve got every last detail of the nursery completed. Other times, you didn’t quite get around to finishing the final décor (baby will be in your room for a while, anyways). If you want to show off that finished nursery, go ahead and do an in-home session. If you’d rather not rush to get everything hung, go with a studio session.

There are less distractions in a studio session.

Less distractions is helpful for allowing you to feel more relaxed in front of the camera since you’re not worried about anything else around you. It’s also helpful if you have an older sibling participating, since they won’t want to run off to their room or get distracted by their toys.

There you have it! Some great reasons why you should consider a newborn photography studio. Personally, I love both studio and in-home, so your decision should come down to what’s right for you and your family.

If you’re interested in booking either with me, please reach out! Another perk of an in-studio session with me is your option to add a little glam session with Gina, too.
