Before Everett was born, we spent a lot of time looking for Philadelphia date night ideas (and the ‘burbs!) to soak up the time we had left, just the two of us – between nesting and frantic home projects, of course.
Table of Contents
Most of our Philadelphia date nights revolved around food (pregnant or not, I just want to eat something delicious) but lots of thrifting trips and flea markets, and movies galore.
Longwood Gardens
Longwood Gardens is such a wonderful place to visit for a date night (or day date!). Not only will you get some serious steps in, but certain nights have special events, like the drone show, and you can work dinner in as well. We love the dining options at Longwood – everything from wood fired pizza stands to 1906 – but there are lots of great options in the Kennett Square area, too.
Pro tip: get the membership and visit after baby arrives. Longwood Gardens is an incredibly walkable area and easily navigable with a stroller.
Day Trip or Weekend Away to Cape May
Maybe I’m biased, but I think Cape May is truly the best beach town at the Jersey shore. Sitting on the beach for the day? You’ve got it. Prefer a nice dinner out and shopping? Done! Vineyards (love Willow Creek) and live music? Yup! History? Look no further than Cold Spring Village. Not only are there a variety of AirBnbs, Cape May has a huge assortment of actual BnBs and the famed Congress Hall.
Pro tip: skip sunset at Sunset Beach and head to Cape May Point or Higbee Beach for less crowds.
Cooking Class
We recently did a cooking class at the Wayne Art Center and had such a great time! Not only did we learn how to prepare some new dishes, we had a delicious meal and didn’t have to wash a single dish or pan. Sur La Table in the King of Prussia mall also offers cooking classes – but you’ll definitely want to book these far in advance as they get snagged up quickly. To personalize your cooking class experience and for a bit of a splurge, reach out to a private chef to tailor the experience to your tastes.
Muffins & Massage
A combo made in heaven! Hit up the Buttery in Malvern for breakfast (not only is the food truly next level – I dream of their almond croissants) and sit outside if the weather allows, or hang out in the beautifully styled indoor dining area. After breakfast, walk across the street to Grazia for a couples massage. Grazia offers a prenatal massage, along with a host of other truly indulgent options making it a perfect Philadelphia date night idea.
Pro tip: if time allows, visit Historic Sugartown while you’re in the area. Check the website to ensure hours and see if there are any special events while you’re in town.
Rittenhouse Farmers’ Market & Mediterranean Brunch
Stroll the Farmers’ Market on Saturday morning (maybe with a shopping list for a special mid-week dinner in mind?) with a coffee from Elixr, and then head to Spice Finch for a Mediterranean menu and mocktails.
And a bonus Philadelphia date night idea…
Research newborn photographers! Most newborn photographers reserve sessions months in advance – most of my families book their session with me 5-6 months in advance of their baby being born. You’ll want to find a Philadelphia newborn photographer who is experienced and safely handles babies, as well as offers any extra perks (hello, client closet). Finding someone who you connect with on a personal level is just as important as finding something who resonates with you stylistically; ask to view several different galleries, and schedule time to chat on the phone to learn more about their process.
