As a New Jersey maternity photographer, I have a thing with maternity sessions in my studio and lemme tell you why.
They allow for so much variety.
I get it – outdoor maternity sessions are a hot commodity because of the light, the beautiful landscape, and the scale of your portraits. However, studio maternity sessions offer so much variety; from bare bump portraits to dress, there are options galore for wardrobe. As a New Jersey maternity photographer, my studio is a such a nice option for families to consider as they navigate their location options for their maternity session.
Worried about the weather? Not with a studio session!
The Philadelphia and New Jersey area sees ALL the weather. Hot as Hades in the middle of August? Check. Freezing cold and windy in February? Yup. I’d reckon that few families plan their new baby with the timing of their maternity session in mind, but sometimes an outdoor option just really isn’t comfortable or possible. With a temperature controlled studio and the ability to schedule a session at any time during the day, studio options are great for families who don’t have a lot of flexibility in their schedule in terms of time of day, or would rather not deal with the elements outside.
Easy access to bathrooms and snacks? Another great reason to chose a studio session with a New Jersey maternity photographer.
Picture it with me: Veronika, 7 months pregnant, stuck in traffic on 76. Nowhere to stop, nowhere to go. When I finally pulled up to our house, I literally parked on the grass for my angel of a husband to park the car as I ran inside. If you’re worried about access to the restroom or other conveniences like snacks, air conditioning, or the like, a studio session is a great option.
Bedtimes & big siblings – something to consider.
Most outdoor New Jersey maternity sessions happen around 2 hours, give or take, before sunset. That soft golden light we all love sometimes doesn’t line up with bedtimes for toddlers. While my experience is that most children can adjust to the later bedtime, some families prefer to keep their nighttime schedule. A studio session allows families to choose a time of day that might not be compatible with the best outdoor light and still retain their bedtime schedule.
Have you ever seen anything sweeter than a toddler’s hand on mama’s bump?
Because I’m betting you haven’t! There is something so precious about a little one’s hand gently resting on their mama, or a head resting on their new sibling. Studio maternity sessions allow for these precious portraits, like mama + their first baby cuddled up on the bed together.
