Heading to Wildwood for your summer vacation and on the hunt for a Wildwood photographer? South Jersey’s beaches are such a special place for a vacation. There is so much to offer aside from the beach, from museums to antiquing to vineyards to arcades. If you’re vacationing in Wildwood, you might want to think about finding a Wildwood photographer to help remember your trip!
As a family, we always have professional portraits taken while we’re on vacation as a souvenir from our time there. Nearby Cape May is known for it’s beautiful sunsets and Victorian buildings, so no matter what type of backdrop you’re hoping for, there’s always a stunning location to choose from. As you’re thinking about reserving time with a Wildwood photographer, consider the following:

What time of day should you schedule your session with a Wildwood photographer?
This is something you’ll want to carefully consider based on the time of year that your session is scheduled for, the ages of the people being photographed, and the exact location that your session is taking place. Lots of things to consider!
If you’re hoping for a summer session, as most people are when they’re looking for a Wildwood photographer, be prepared to start on the later side of the day. Most of my sessions start 1-2 hours before sunset so you get a beautiful sunset and golden glow in your portraits. The sun is low on the horizon which means a soft light – also called “golden hour”. Alternatively, you can plan for your session right after sunrise but that can be pretty early in the morning. Some families can tinker with naps and bedtimes to make a later time (or early morning!) work while others would rather wait for later in the year when the sun sets earlier.
What location should you choose for your session with a Wildwood photographer?
This is totally up to personal preference! Some families choose a particular beach block that is meaningful to them – maybe it’s where they got engaged, spent their first summer at the beach, or brought their baby for the first time.
I personally look for beaches a bit off the beaten path so that there’s less background noise going on – less people, umbrellas, and beach chairs taking away from your family!
If you’re looking for a location that isn’t the beach, there are lots of options available to you! Ice cream shops, NAS Wildwood, the historic streets of Cape May…the possibilities are endless.
How far in advance should you reserve your session with a Wildwood photographer?
This is going to surprise you – please please please don’t wait until you’re already at your beach house or hotel to start looking for a Wildwood photographer. Most beach photographers fill their calendars 6+ months in advance, as families officially reserve their weeks at the shore. Sometimes families will get lucky and find a photographer who has availability during their time at the shore, but that’s few and far between.
My rule of thumb: once you have your down payment made on your accommodations, start looking for photographers whose work and style resonates with what you’re looking for. Check out reviews, ask friends and family for referrals, and start checking in with photographers for availability.
If you’re looking for a Wildwood photographer last minute, keep an open mind when it comes to location. Some photographers may be able to squeeze you in but at a different beach town than where you’re staying.
Booking a Wildwood photographer? Consider these 3 things first!
