Photographer booked, baby cookin’ – all that’s left to do is to decide on the location for your newborn session. As a Philadelphia baby photographer, I always walk families through the upsides of each option before their session, with them being able to decide on the final location after baby arrives. Let me share my pros & cons list for both studio and in-home options to help you make up your mind!
Do you have a pet that you’d like to include?
If you are as obsessed with your dogs as I am, it might be a non-negotiable to have them included in your newborn session. If that’s the case, an in-home session is going to be the way to go. Dog + baby portraits are some of my absolute favorites as a Philadelphia baby photographer, and I jump at the chance to include those cuties in a newborn session.
Let’s talk toys.
When Eleanor and Everett were little, toys had completely covered our house. We didn’t have a playroom or basement (#smallhouselife) and the thought of cleaning up the house before a session would’ve sent me into a spiral. If you don’t feel like straightening up before the session – and don’t worry, we’re not going to be photographing in the bathroom or closets so just throw everythingggggg in there – studio might be the way to go. Even if there are no toys in the picture and this is your first one – if you want to leave the laundry and dishes at home and not need to worry about straightening up, studio is a great option!
Let there be light!
Many families are drawn to my clean, crisp, modern Philadelphia photography studio due the light. Of course I don’t expect homes to have windows like that – mine certainly doesn’t! We can create beautiful portraits even with small windows. But if you’re looking for that light, bright look, studio is a nice option to consider when planning out your session location with your Philadelphia baby photographer. The studio has several vignettes for portraits, including a beautiful bedroom, couches, and comfy chairs.
Would you like your nursery photographed by your Philadelphia baby photographer?
Planning Everett’s nursery brought me such joy; I loved collecting brightly colored wooden toys, antique prints, books for his shelf, and sweet little blankets to hang by his chair. When we moved from the first house that I brought him to, I cried moving his things from the nursery. I’m so glad that I have the space photographed because I love looking back at it and how much he’s grown and changed over the years.
If your nursery is important to you and you’d like to have all of those details photographed, an in home session should be considered. I love photographing family heirlooms in the space, and all of the books and clothes and prints that families have spent so many months preparing.
